An account is how TelecomsXchange recognizes your traffic: the socket your switch or platform plugs into. You need at least one before you can send a call or an SMS.
Which protocol should I choose?#
| Protocol | Use it for | How it authenticates |
|---|---|---|
| SIP | Voice calls from your softswitch or PBX | IP Address, a generated VoIP Login and VoIP Password (SIP digest authentication), or both |
| SMPP | Sending SMS from your SMS platform | SMPP System Id and SMPP Password (required), plus an optional IP Address |
| IoT (MQTT) | Connected devices | A generated MQTT Login and MQTT Password (no IP address). The login always starts with your 10-digit customer prefix |
You can create as many accounts as you like, for example one per switch, customer group or product. For what to do with an IoT account afterwards, see IoT messaging over MQTT.
How do I create an account?#
- Click Accounts in the sidebar. You'll see your accounts with their Protocol, Name, Capacity (for SMPP accounts, the rate limit), Balance, Account Status and Bind Status. Bind Status applies to SMPP accounts only: ONLINE or OFFLINE, and clicking it opens the bind log.
- Click Add New Account.
- Under Protocol Type, choose SIP, SMPP or IoT (MQTT).
- Enter an Account Name. It must be different from your other account names.
-
Authorize your system (the fields depend on the protocol, see the table above):
- SIP: enter the IP Address your switch sends from (a plain address like
203.0.113.10), and/or click Add Voip Login/Password to get a generated login and password. - SMPP: a SMPP System Id and SMPP Password are filled in for you. Keep them or type your own. The IP Address is optional.
- IoT (MQTT): the MQTT Login and MQTT Password are generated for you. The login begins with your 10-digit customer prefix; if you edit it, keep the prefix.
Click Generate New for a fresh login and password. 6. In Use Balance of, choose Use Own Balance, or another account to share its balance. 7. SIP only: tick Subscribe to all purchased routes to add every route you've already bought to this account, with the same ASR and ACD alert settings as your existing accounts. 8. Click Add Account.
- SIP: enter the IP Address your switch sends from (a plain address like
You'll see an Account added card: "name is ready". Click View All Accounts to go to the list, Open Account Settings to edit the new account, or stay on the form to add another one. For SIP and SMPP accounts, an Important Alert! email ("New origination account registered") confirms the new IP address and login.
Warning
If you get an Important Alert email for a change you didn't make, contact support@telecomsxchange.com right away. Someone else may be using your account, which can cost you money.
What if something goes wrong?#
| You see | What to do |
|---|---|
| You have to specify IP Address or voip_login or both | SIP accounts need an IP address, a VoIP login, or both. |
| IP should be IP address, say 1.2.3.4 | Enter a plain IP address, without a port or hostname. On Edit Account the message reads "IP should be either IP address, say 1.2.3.4 or host:port like 1.2.3.4:5060", and host:port is accepted there. |
| IP is not unique | Another account already uses this IP with IP-only authentication. Add a VoIP login, or use a different IP. |
| This IP address is already being authenticated | Another SIP account already uses this IP. Add a VoIP login, or use a different IP. |
| The IP is already used up | Same as above, on the Additional Allowed IPs page. |
| Name is not unique, choose another name | Pick a different Account Name. |
| Empty name not allowed | Enter an Account Name. |
| voip_login is not unique, choose another voip_login | Another account already uses this login. Click Generate New or type a different one. |
| Empty SMPP system Id not allowed | Enter an SMPP System Id. |
| Wrong Prefix for login | An IoT login must start with your 10-digit customer prefix. Click Generate New to get a valid one. |
| This Login is not unique | Another IoT account already uses this login. Generate a new one. |
| 'notification_balance' parameter expects numeric | Enter a plain number in Notify if balance lower than, for example 50. |
| rouing group not found | The Default Routing Group you chose no longer exists. Pick another or NOT SET. |
How do I change an account later?#
On Accounts, open the account's three-dot Actions menu and choose Edit Account. The page shows the read-only Account ID (#N, the number the API uses). From there you can:
- rename it or change its IP Address,
- add more IPs: click (Additional: n) next to IP Address (see below),
- add a SIP login: click Add SIP Digest Auth. The VoIP Login and VoIP Password fields appear with generated values; click Generate VoIP Credentials for a new pair, or Remove SIP Digest Auth to go back to IP-only authentication. IoT accounts have Generate IoT Credentials instead,
- SMPP only: set the SMPP Rate Limit (req/sec) your platform may send, and a Default Routing Group for messages that don't match a purchased route directly (NOT SET (Use direct route from purchased routes) or one of your routing groups),
- tick Block this account to stop it making or receiving calls,
- tick Enable Subspace (SIP and SMPP) if you send traffic through the Subspace network. The confirmation reads "Success! Subspace Network is enabled for this account. The IP authentication will use the value of the special subspace header as remote ip to authenticate your account",
- change Use Balance; each option shows the account's balance, and the Balance Information card shows the Available Balance, or Using Parent Balance and Own Balance when the account shares another one,
- set Notify if balance lower than to get low-balance emails (shown when the account uses its own balance),
- see the IP CPS Limit (SIP with an IP address). Every authorized IP gets 10 calls per second; the field is read-only, so contact support to change it,
- see the account's Purchased Routes with Seller (or Anonymous), Route, Status (OK, Blocked by user or Blocked by seller) and Tech Prefix, and download each route's rates in Default, Cloud Softswitch or Sippy format. On an SMPP account, one route carries the Default Route badge; click Make Default on another to switch,
- IoT only: copy the mosquitto_pub Usage Sample, a ready-made test command using your login, password and port 1888.
Click Update Account to save. You'll see "Account updated successfully". Changing the IP address or login sends a new Important Alert email.
To see blocked accounts in the list, click Show Blocked on Accounts.
How do I authorize more IP addresses?#
- On Edit Account, click (Additional: n) next to IP Address. The Additional Allowed IPs page lists each extra IP with its IP Address, Timestamp and Actions (Edit, Delete).
- Click Add New IP, enter the address and save. You'll see "IP has been added" with a Proceed link back to the list.
Editing an address shows "IP Address has been updated"; deleting one shows "IP Address has been deleted". Each change sends an email: "New origination IP registered" for an added or changed IP and "Origination IP address has been removed" for a removed or replaced one. New IPs get the same 10 calls-per-second limit as the main address.
Next: add funds to your balance.
Common questions
What is the difference between IP authentication and a VoIP login?
With IP authentication, TelecomsXchange recognizes your traffic by the IP address it comes from. With a VoIP login (SIP digest authentication), your switch authenticates with a username and password; a SIP account can use either or both.
Can several accounts share one balance?
Yes. In Use Balance of, choose another of your accounts instead of Use Own Balance. Traffic on both accounts is then paid from that account's balance.
How do I add more than one IP address to an account?
Open Edit Account and click the (Additional: n) link next to IP Address. On the Additional Allowed IPs page, click Add New IP.
Will I be told when an IP is added or removed?
Yes. Each new IP or login triggers an Important Alert email ("New origination account registered" or "New origination IP registered"), and removing or changing an additional IP sends "Origination IP address has been removed", so you can react if you didn't make the change.
How many calls per second can one IP send?
Every authorized IP address gets a limit of 10 calls per second. Edit Account shows it as IP CPS Limit; contact support@telecomsxchange.com if you need more.
How do I get warned before my balance runs out?
Edit the account and set Notify if balance lower than. When the balance drops below it, you get an Account Low Balance Notification email (headed Low Balance Alert, with a Top up balance button), also sent to your Billing / Accounting Email if set.
