# Send your first call with a tech prefix

> Send calls from an authorized account to sip01.telecomsxchange.com port 5060 and dial the route's tech prefix before the E.164 number, for example 80039#447700900123. Each route's tech prefix is in My Interconnections and in the Purchased Route Confirmation email.

## How a call reaches the seller

1. **Your switch**: Authorized IP or VoIP login on your account
2. **TelecomsXchange** (via `80039#447700900123`): sip01 on port 5060 picks the route and bills
3. **Seller's switch** (via chosen route): Carries the call on the purchased route
4. **CDR (Voice)** (via when the call ends): Duration, cost and SIP code recorded

A purchased route carries calls once your switch sends them to TelecomsXchange with the route's tech prefix. This guide shows the host, the dial format and how to manage your routes.

## Before you start

- [Buy a route](https://help.telecomsxchange.com/buyers/find-and-buy-routes/) in Market View.
- [Create an account](https://help.telecomsxchange.com/buyers/create-your-first-account/) with your switch's IP address or a VoIP login. TelecomsXchange uses it to recognize your calls.

![How a call travels: your switch sends the tech prefix and number to sip01.telecomsxchange.com, which bills the call and sends it on to the seller's switch](https://help.telecomsxchange.com/assets/diagrams/call-flow.svg)

## How do I send my first call?

1. Make sure your switch sends calls from the account's authorized IP address, or registers with the account's VoIP login and password.
2. Go to **My Interconnections** and find the route. Click its **Tech Prefix** to copy it; it briefly shows "Copied!".

![My Interconnections, showing each route as your account, seller and route, with its status and tech prefix](https://help.telecomsxchange.com/assets/screenshots/buyer-interconnections.jpg)

3. Point your switch to host `sip01.telecomsxchange.com`, port `5060`.
4. Dial the tech prefix followed by the number in E.164 format, without `+` or `00`. For example `80039#447700900123`.
5. Open **Live Calls** to watch the call while it runs.

When the call ends you'll see its record, with duration, cost and SIP code, in **Logs → CDR (Voice)**. See [call records, live calls and stats](https://help.telecomsxchange.com/buyers/call-records-and-live-calls/).

## What is in the Purchased Route Confirmation email?

A few minutes after each purchase a background job sends you the **Purchased Route Confirmation** email, headed "You're Interconnected!". It lists the **Seller**, **Route** and **Connected on** time, then under **Interconnection info** the **Host** (`host:port`), **Tech prefix** and **Protocol**, with the route's full price list attached as a CSV. The seller gets a "Purchased Route Notification" with a link to your profile.

| | Voice (SIP) | SMS (SMPP) |
|---|---|---|
| Host | `sip01.telecomsxchange.com` | `smpp01.telecomsxchange.com` |
| Port | `5060` | `2776` |
| Codecs | G.729, G.723, G.711 | |

## What is a tech prefix?

A tech prefix is a 5-digit code followed by `#`, for example `80039#`. It tells TelecomsXchange which seller route to use for the call. Every route you buy has its own tech prefix.

The dial format is the tech prefix, then the number:

```
80039#447700900123
```

Here `80039#` picks the route and `447700900123` is the UK number. If you buy several routes to the same country, you choose one per call by changing the prefix. A [routing group](https://help.telecomsxchange.com/buyers/routing-groups-and-route-testing/) can also choose for you; its tech prefix starts with `444`.

SMS routes work the same way with the SMPP host, but an SMPP account can also have a **Default Route**: on the account's **Edit Account** page, the purchased routes list shows a **Default Route** badge on one SMS route and a **Make Default** link on the others, and messages sent without a tech prefix use the default. The first SMS route you buy on an account becomes its default. An SMPP account can instead use a [default routing group](https://help.telecomsxchange.com/buyers/routing-groups-and-route-testing/#how-do-i-use-a-routing-group-for-sms).

## What does My Interconnections show?

**My Interconnections** lists every route you've purchased as a path: your account → seller → route.

- The cards at the top count **Unique Sellers**, **Active Interconnects** and **Blocked/Inactive** routes.
- **Status** is **Active**, **Blocked by You** or **Blocked by Seller**; the legend under the table uses the same names.
- **Type** is **VOICE** or **SMS**.
- The search box filters as you type, by connection, seller, account or tech prefix, and shows "N of M interconnects match" with a **Clear** link.
- Routes sold anonymously show the seller as **Anonymous**; clicking it opens a message to the seller.

The **⋮** menu on each row has **Configure Route**, **Download (TCXC)** and **Download (Softswitch)** for the route's rates, and **Block Route** or **Activate Route**.

## How do I block or reactivate a route?

1. Go to **My Interconnections**.
2. Click **⋮** on the route's row.
3. Click **Block Route**. To use a blocked route again, click **Activate Route**.

The change applies at once, with no confirmation step. The status changes to **Blocked by You**, or back to **Active**. If the seller has blocked the route, the menu has no block option and the status stays **Blocked by Seller** until the seller unblocks it.

!!! warning
While a route is blocked you don't receive its rate update notifications. When you activate it again, download the rates to check the current prices.

## How do I get alerted when route quality drops?

1. Go to **My Interconnections**, click **⋮** on the route's row and choose **Configure Route**.
2. On **Modify Purchased Route**, fill in the thresholds you want (see the table below). Leave a field empty to skip it. Use whole numbers; decimals are rounded down when the check runs.
3. Click **Save Settings**. **Return to Accounts** leaves without saving.

The route is checked once a day, after midnight UTC, against the previous day's traffic. The check only runs on routes that carried **at least 10 calls** (answered or failed) that day; with fewer calls nothing is compared, and **Current ASR** and **Current ACD** show **N/A**. When ASR or ACD is below a threshold you get an email, "TCXC Notification Tresholds met for <seller>-<route>" or "TCXC BLOCK Tresholds met for <seller>-<route>", with the measured and threshold values; the seller receives the same email. A block threshold also blocks the route. The thresholds are for voice routes only.

| Setting | What happens below it |
|---|---|
| Notify if ASR goes lower than (%) | You get an email. |
| Notify if ACD goes lower than (seconds) | You get an email. |
| Block if ASR goes lower than (%) | You get an email and the route is blocked. |
| Block if ACD goes lower than (seconds) | You get an email and the route is blocked. |

The same page has a **Block this route** checkbox. It also shows the seller's **Minimum ASR** and **Minimum ACD**, your **Current ASR**, **Current ACD** and **Daily Minutes**, and a **Download** link for the rate sheet.

!!! tip
Compare your current ASR and ACD with the seller's minimums. If your traffic falls below them on a day with at least 10 calls, the seller's rules block the route automatically and you get the message "Purchased route has been blocked for seller:<seller>".

## What if something goes wrong?

| You see | What to do |
|---|---|
| Status **Blocked by Seller** | The seller blocked you, or your traffic missed the seller's minimum ASR or ACD. Contact the seller from their profile, or use another route. |
| Purchased route has been blocked for seller | This [message](https://help.telecomsxchange.com/buyers/preferences-notifications-messages/) means the seller's side blocked the route. Check its status in **My Interconnections**. |
| Status **Active** but calls on the route fail | The seller may have blocked the whole route for all buyers, which doesn't change your status. Check the SIP code in the CDRs and contact the seller. |
| 'Notify ASR' parameter expects numeric (or Notify ACD, Block ASR, Block ACD) | Enter the threshold as a number, without `%` or letters. |
| No Routes Found | You haven't purchased any routes yet. Buy one in Market View first. |
| No matching interconnects | Nothing matches your search. Try part of a connection name, seller, account or tech prefix, or click **Clear**. |

## Frequently asked questions

**Q: What is a tech prefix?**

A: A tech prefix is a 5-digit code followed by #, for example 80039#. It tells TelecomsXchange which purchased route carries the call. Each route has its own tech prefix.

**Q: Where do I send my SIP traffic?**

A: To sip01.telecomsxchange.com on port 5060, from an IP authorized on one of your accounts or with the account's VoIP login. SMS routes use smpp01.telecomsxchange.com on port 2776.

**Q: What number format should I dial?**

A: The tech prefix, then the number in international E.164 format without + or 00. For example 80039#447700900123.

**Q: Which codecs are supported?**

A: The Purchased Route Confirmation email lists G.729, G.723 and G.711 for SIP routes.

**Q: When do I get the Purchased Route Confirmation email?**

A: A few minutes after the purchase. It is sent by a background job, not at the moment you click Purchase, and carries the host, tech prefix, protocol and the route's price list.

**Q: Can a seller block my route?**

A: Yes. A seller can block you on their route, and the route is also blocked automatically if your daily ASR or ACD falls below the seller's minimum on a day with at least 10 calls. My Interconnections then shows Blocked by Seller.
